ShaneJoy Mills from Auburn, Alabama, wanted to mark the end of summer and her daughter Brooke’s first day of 7th grade with a simple backyard photo shoot. Just a sweet tradition — nothing out of the ordinary.
But after reviewing the photos, she noticed something alarming in one of them.
A snake, camouflaged perfectly against the tree bark, was right behind her daughter.
“I said, ‘Smile, sweetie!’ — and then I saw the snake,” Mills told WRBL. “It was terrifying.”
Facebook commenters identified it as a harmless rat snake. The photo quickly went viral — shared hundreds of times.
Thankfully, no one was hurt. The only thing that got “bitten” was the internet — by surprise and curiosity.
