The Heat of the Day
The day was so scorching, it felt as if the air itself was trembling under the sun. I walked down the almost empty parking lot of the supermarket when something caught my attention immediately—a silver car, parked alone.
As I approached, I saw a dog inside the back seat, barely breathing, its fur soaked with sweat. The windows were closed, and around it, nothing stirred—just the dog, lying there, slowly losing consciousness.
It wasn’t barking or growling—it was silently suffering. On the windshield, a note read: “Be back soon. If possible, call.” Below it, a phone number.
Desperate Call
I dialed the number. On the second ring, a man answered.
— “Hello?”
— “Excuse me, your dog is in the car and is losing consciousness!” 😨
— “Wait, don’t interfere, it’s none of your business,” the man snapped before hanging up.
I was about to leave, but then my gaze fell on the dog. Its eyes—pleading, terrified, begging for help—made me freeze. I realized it was on the brink of passing out.
Breaking the Glass, Saving a Life
There was nothing else I could do. I grabbed a rock and shattered the window, carefully lifting the dog out.
I poured water over it, and slowly, it began to wag its tail, weakly at first.
— “It’s okay, sweetheart,” I whispered. “I’m here with you.”
People began to gather. Someone brought a towel, another a bottle of water. And then… the owner arrived.
Shock and Outrage
But his gaze wasn’t on the dog. It stopped on me, the one who had broken his window.
— “Who broke my window? Do you even know how much it cost?” he demanded.
I stood firm and said clearly, “I broke your window.”
Instead of gratitude, he demanded that I pay for the repair.
— “I don’t understand you, sir. I just saved your dog! What are you asking of me?”
— “I told you not to help my dog,” he retorted.
— “I paid for her window,” he added, walking away quickly, leaving the dog behind.

A New Companion
I picked up the dog and took her with me. From that day forward, she never left my side, and I never allowed anyone to endanger her again.
The dog became my constant companion—a reminder that sometimes, doing the right thing comes with unexpected challenges… and the courage to stand firm.
