Progeria is an extremely rare genetic disorder in which the body ages dozens of times faster than normal. Children born with this condition look like elderly people, and they rarely live to adulthood.
Ekaterina Nezhentseva was born with this diagnosis. Today she is 30 years old—a milestone doctors never expected her to reach.
Despite the illness, which mostly affected her appearance, Ekaterina developed like an ordinary child.
She went to kindergarten, played in the yard, and went to school. Still, her appearance caused constant psychological pressure—from judgmental looks to complete rejection by others.
Since youth, she dreamed of plastic surgery—not for beauty, but to look more “normal” to avoid fear or pity.
Eventually, she found specialists willing to help. The surgery was a success. Though the changes were subtle, for Ekaterina, they meant everything.
Unexpectedly, she found love online. A simple acquaintance quickly turned into a strong relationship and marriage.
They had two children. The older son is healthy. The younger unfortunately inherited progeria.
The marriage couldn’t withstand the challenge—after five years, her husband left. Ekaterina was left alone with two children, one of whom required constant care.
But the story didn’t end there. A new man came into her life who accepted her just the way she is. Neither her condition nor her appearance scared him.
He became a support to Ekaterina and a father figure to her children. In 2019, he proposed to her. They’ve been together ever since.
