A woman lost 90 kg after a rescue helicopter couldn’t carry her due to her weight.

LIFE STORIES

Danielle Hutchinson weighed 145 kg when she found out that her weight prevented her from flying with her severely ill four-year-old daughter on a medical helicopter.

The 32-year-old from Norwich, Connecticut, had struggled with obesity her whole life. She was denied access to rides and always needed an extender belt on planes. But in December 2022, her weight became life-threatening. Her daughter, Neve, had a severe asthma attack and needed urgent helicopter transport. Doctors determined Danielle’s weight posed a safety risk, so she had to travel separately.

That moment changed everything. Within weeks, she changed her diet, began weight-loss injections, and started exercising. Over the next year, she lost an incredible 90 kg and now weighs just 54 kg.

Despite her success, Danielle faces a new challenge: removing about 5 kg of excess skin from her abdomen.
