On the day of the divorce, I read a letter to my husband that I had written the night before. Everyone was laughing, and he was barely standing.

LIFE STORIES

After the end of my marriage with the man I loved, I wrote a letter filled with gratitude for everything we had been through together.

Here is what I expressed:

“My dear, we have lived through so much in fifteen years. In joy as well as in trials, in happiness as well as in sadness — I was always there, trying to support you. And even though our story ends today, I want to keep only the good memories.

You taught me patience and determination. Instead of complaining, I learned to face difficulties without unnecessary stress. I did everything to solve problems myself, so as not to burden you further.

You were my first teacher in medicine. I will never forget how you refused injections, and how I had to be both your wife and your nurse. When you fainted at the sight of a syringe, I had no choice but to take charge.

You also taught me to become handy. I learned to fix a thousand little things, and today nothing scares me anymore. You often came home exhausted, forgetting everything that still needed to be done, while I, armed with screwdriver and hammer, got to work.

These tools became my faithful companions. And I realized I could manage on my own in any situation.

You taught me to become a strong and confident woman. I learned to handle conflicts with neighbors, pay fines, and write official letters.

Remember when I had to learn to drive. Your license had been taken away, and I had to master driving in a few days to pick you up after those nights when you were no longer able to come home alone.

Thanks to you, I have always stayed active. You preferred to stay on the couch, but I carried heavy bags and worked the garden while you refused to move because of a finger pain.

You taught me to be versatile. I had to work in several fields to provide for our needs.

And finally, I want to thank you for leaving. You thought I didn’t understand you and you slammed the door. Honestly, I felt relief. For the first time, I was able to breathe freely.

Thank you for everything. Thank you for the experience, for everything I learned thanks to you and our life together.”
