One night, I saw my son bury something in our garden: when I discovered what he was hiding, I was speechless.
Danny is my only son. After a difficult divorce, he came to live with me. At first, I thought it was only temporary, but I did everything I could to support him.
One night, I woke up in the middle of the night, drawn by noises coming from the garden. I got up and went to the window. There, I saw my son, in his pajamas, digging in the earth. I noticed his hands were shaking and he seemed furious.

I decided not to intervene, thinking he was going through an emotional crisis related to his divorce and was simply trying to get through this difficult time. He moved around the garden, then returned to the same spot to continue digging. Finally, he placed a bottle in the hole before carefully covering it.
Then he went back inside, as if nothing had happened. The next day, he behaved normally, and I decided to say nothing.
But the following night, the same scene repeated itself. This time, I noticed him take a bundle of papers out of his pocket and put them in the bottle before burying it again.
I couldn’t go back to bed. Thoughts haunted me: What could he possibly be hiding in those bottles and why was he burying them? These questions tormented me so much that I decided to stay home the next day to find out what he was hiding, while he was at work.
What I discovered left me speechless.

I was digging in the garden, my heart pounding, when I found the bottle.
When I opened it, I discovered carefully rolled up documents.
My eyes widened in amazement as I read them: contracts, financial agreements… and my own signatures, but clearly forged.
Each document seemed more serious than the last.

Danny worked at my company, but I never imagined he would go so far.
Why would he do this? Was it for money? Ambition? Or was he just desperate to see me fail?
The next day, I confronted him.
He hung his head, his eyes full of shame, and explained that he had acted out of fear of losing everything.
He had wanted to “fix” what he thought was an impending disaster.
