I’ve been working as a delivery driver for two years, and a few months ago, I encountered a rather strange situation. A man in his sixties was ordering 15 20-liter bottles of mineral water every day.
At first, I thought it was just a little excess from time to time, but it quickly became a routine: he ordered the same thing every day.
What surprised me was that he lived alone in a small, isolated house. I wondered what he could possibly be doing with all that water.
One day, out of curiosity, I decided to ask him. He smiled mysteriously and didn’t answer, which intrigued me even more.
Over time, my surprise turned to concern. I couldn’t find a logical explanation, so I decided to contact the police.
The next morning, an officer and I went to his house. He welcomed us warmly, as if nothing had happened, and invited us in.
What we discovered inside completely shocked me. I had imagined all sorts of scenarios, but nothing had prepared me for what we found there.
The inside of the house was filled with water bottles, each labeled for a specific purpose: “For the neighbors,” “For the temple,” and so on.
The old man explained that he was aware that the neighborhood residents didn’t have access to clean drinking water.
Every day, he ordered water and asked the neighborhood children to distribute it.
Moved, the officer asked him why he had never spoken about his generous gesture.
The old man replied simply: “I don’t need to be talked about. As long as people have water, I’m happy.”
This discreet gesture was his way of giving back.
As a former soldier, he knew better than anyone the value of water.
