It’s hard to believe that the man covered in tattoos, piercings, and forehead implants once led a calm and conventional life behind a desk. Yet that’s the story of Rolf Buchholz, whose extreme transformation has stunned the world.
Born in Dortmund, Germany, Rolf followed a traditional path early in life. He studied telecommunications, earned a degree, and landed a stable job at a large IT company. Reserved and quiet, he was seen as a discreet person.

But deep down, Rolf yearned for something more. He sought authenticity and a way to express what he felt inside. This transformation began later in life: at 40, he got his first tattoo. A small piece of ink that quickly led to a piercing—then another. What started as a minor change became a total transformation.
Today, Rolf holds the Guinness World Record for the most body modifications on a single person. He has more than 560 piercings, including over 170 on his face and hundreds more throughout the rest of his body, even in intimate areas. He has also split his tongue, inserted silicone implants under his skin to mimic horns, and is covered in tattoos from head to toe.

However, Rolf insists it’s not about breaking records or shocking people. For him, body modification is a powerful personal statement. It’s his way of sharing his true identity with the world — a living form of art on skin rather than on canvas. He believes he hasn’t become someone else, but rather revealed who he’s always been.
Despite his striking appearance, Rolf is surprisingly gentle and friendly. He speaks openly, smiles often, and welcomes curious questions without hesitation. Those who meet him are often surprised by how approachable he is.

Reactions to his look are sharply divided. Some admire his boldness and creativity, while others feel discomfort or even fear. In 2014, his appearance even caused an incident at Dubai Airport, where he was denied entry for “security reasons.” According to Rolf, the authorities suspected a connection to black magic.
Today, he continues to travel, meet fans, and challenge preconceived notions about beauty and self-expression.
