Her husband left her for a student. The student organizes a farewell dinner—with a surprising twist at the end.

LIFE STORIES

Anna stood by the window, watching raindrops trace fleeting patterns on the glass. Seventeen years of marriage… was that a lot or too little? She held every smile, every birthday, every small gesture in her memory. And now it was all falling apart.

“We need to talk,” Łukasz announced as he entered without knocking.
“I’m listening,” she replied in a calm voice.
“I’m leaving. With Zofia.”

The heavy silence was broken only by the ticking of the wall clock.

“That student from your faculty?” Anna asked without raising her eyes.
“Yes. I’m sorry. I need something new.”

Anna gave a faint smile, picked up a bottle of wine from the sideboard, and said,
“In that case, I’m hosting a farewell dinner: friends, family—let’s make our parting a proper ritual.”

The next day she consulted a lawyer, settled her finances, and prepared the documents. That very evening, the house filled with the aromas of her finest dishes, and the china sparkled as if for a grand celebration.

“Everything must be perfect,” she told herself.

When the guests took their seats and Zofia arrived last, Anna raised her glass:
“Thank you all for coming. Tonight we close one chapter and begin another.”

Then, turning to Łukasz, she said,
“Thank you for these years. You taught me the importance of detail.”

On the table lay folders: a summary of their joint loans, the balance sheet of her business, and… the prenuptial agreement outlining asset division in case of betrayal.

A freezing silence fell.
“The house is in my name. The accounts are frozen. The divorce is already filed.”

Anna addressed Zofia directly:
“Do you really want to start something with a man who has no roof over his head and no guarantees?”

Zofia stammered an apology and left the house. Łukasz remained speechless.

“I could have made a scene,” Anna whispered, “but I chose dignity. Tomorrow I fly to the Maldives, a dream of mine.”

She placed the apartment keys on the table:

“I’m selling it. The proceeds will fund a fresh start. Your accounts are no longer my concern.”

“And me?” he asked in a broken voice.
“That’s your path,” she replied. “Thank you for pushing me toward this renewal.”

Then she left the room with a smile, closing the door on her first step toward freedom.
