Did you know that some plants can attract snakes into your home? Find out which ones and how to keep unwanted guests away.

Which plants should you avoid planting near your home?
Some popular plants give off scents or create environments that attract snakes. Here are a few:
🔹 Also known as “white tongue herb,” “snakeweed,” or “boakraut.” It grows year-round in moist, shady areas, often along roads or near water. Snakes have been frequently observed in places where this herb grows.

🔹 The fruits of this plant are sweet and attract small animals like mice, squirrels, and porcupines. Since snakes feed on mice, having cassia growing nearby—especially during fruiting season—can increase your chances of encountering a snake.
🔹 These flowers, in their natural environment, can attract snakes with their scent. However, if treated with chemical fertilizers, snakes tend to avoid them.
How to prevent snakes from entering your home:
Snakes go where they can find shelter, food, and water. To protect your home, eliminate these three factors:
🔹 Get rid of rodents: Snakes feed on mice and rats, so keep your house clean, especially your pantry and basement.

🔹 Mow your lawn regularly: Snakes like to hide in tall grass, bushes, and shrubs.
🔹 Seal cracks and holes: Check walls, roofs, vents, and gaps under doors.
