2010 – The Era of the UK’s Youngest Parents
In 2010, April Webster and Nathan Fishbourne became the youngest parents in the United Kingdom — a title that marked them for years. April became pregnant at the age of 13, and when their son Jamie was born, both were only 14 years old.

Their story made headlines, sparking debates, shock, and curiosity. The entire world focused on them: some judged them, while others showed compassion. But when the media frenzy calmed and news moved on to other topics, one question remained: what happened to the family that once drew international attention?

“I Didn’t Tell My Parents” Becoming a parent is one of life’s most significant steps, and for April Webster and Nathan Fishbourne, both only 14 years old, it was no exception. However, their youth brought additional complications. April and Nathan’s story began at St Cenydd School in Caerphilly, South Wales, where they met as classmates. Their teenage romance took an unexpected turn when April became pregnant at 13.
Just a day before turning 14, April learned she was expecting Jamie — a piece of news that deeply shocked her family. April hadn’t spoken to her parents about her intimate life, as she was too shy. At that age, awareness of intimacy and precautionary measures doesn’t always meet expectations. Both Nathan and April chose to begin their relationship without proper contraception due to inexperience and lack of maturity.

Nathan’s parents, Julie and Ron (the latter a retired truck driver), initially reacted with anger.
“I really scolded him and told him it was foolish. But what’s done is done, and from now on we will accept Jamie into our family,” Ron told the media at the time.
April Webster as a Young Mother After the initial shock, April’s extended family gave full support to the young couple. April’s mother Maria, who was 36 at the time, said: “At first it was a big shock, but we let April decide how to move forward.”
Jamie was born via C-section in November 2010. He weighed 3.62 kg at birth and had a congenital esophageal condition that made feeding difficult, requiring surgery. After 11 days in the hospital, he was declared healthy and discharged. When British media covered the story, Jamie was already four weeks old. At that point, April was living at her parents’ home, caring for him. The family dynamic was unconventional: April shared a room with her newborn and her 17-year-old sister Robyn, who helped feed him with a bottle. Nathan lived a few kilometers away with his parents.
Uncertainty in the Relationship Despite the complicated circumstances, April was determined to be the best mother she could. “Jamie wasn’t planned, but I’ll do everything I can to be a great mom to him — he’s perfect and I’ll give him everything he needs,” said April. In 2010, it was still unclear how they would split parenting responsibilities: “I’d like to have him on weekends while April could take care of him five days a week,” Nathan said. However, doubts soon arose about the future of their relationship. April admitted they went through a “period of reflection” and wasn’t sure if their bond could survive long term.

Today Four years later, April revealed they were no longer together. “I broke up with Nathan about three years ago; nowadays we don’t really have any contact,” she said in 2014. “When Jamie was born, I hoped you’d stay with me, but I don’t regret my decision.”
Originally, April had planned to continue her studies but never took the exams equivalent to a secondary education diploma in the UK. “Currently, I don’t go to school or work — I’m just focused on Jamie, and everything’s fine with him,” she said. Fortunately, April’s family and friends have always supported her: “My mom and sister love having Jamie at home. Their presence in the mornings gives me some time to rest. When Jamie grows up, I plan to go to university and take exams, but for now, I don’t plan on having another child.”
On social media, it’s evident that April’s life has blossomed since Jamie’s birth. Today, she proudly describes herself as a mother of three: Jamie Rhys, Rowan David, and Ava Lianne. Now known as April Lianna and aged 28, she lives in a happy relationship with her partner Jake Jones. It’s comforting to see how she has moved forward and built a fulfilling life.
Nathan’s life also took a new turn: in February 2023, he got engaged to his partner Samantha and formed a new family with several children. It’s heartening to see that both have found their paths to happiness and personal fulfillment.
Conclusion Teen pregnancies certainly come with challenges — from social judgment to the pressures of parenting at such a young age. Nevertheless, this case shows that April and Nathan, despite early difficulties, managed to build positive and fulfilling lives. Both parents show unwavering commitment to Jamie’s well-being, who continues to grow each day. Their story is a reminder that with support and determination, it’s possible to overcome adversity.
We wish them all the best for the future!
