I discovered by chance that my friend’s husband was cheating on her, and I couldn’t resist getting back at him.

TRICKS

Allison thought that working as a taxi driver in her spare time at the age of 65 would help her keep her spirit young.

She enjoyed the stories and experiences shared by passengers.

But one fateful day, her passenger turned out to be her friend’s husband, Mike, and what happened next made Allison face the difficult decision between being professional and uncovering the painful truth.

She had never planned to work as a taxi driver after her retirement, being a columnist for women.

At 65, she imagined traveling, spending more time with family, and taking vacations.

But life had other plans.

After leaving her daily job, she suddenly found herself with too much free time.

Her editor, Elena, suggested she occasionally write some freelance articles just to keep busy.

But that wasn’t enough for her.

Then she discovered a new passion: driving a taxi.

There was something special about it: the freedom of the open road, the hum of the engine, and meeting different people, which kept her going.

Her son Darren thought she was crazy.

“Mom, why would you drive strangers?” he asked.

She smiled and said, “Someday you’ll understand, Darren.

It’s not just about driving; it’s about people’s stories.

It makes me feel alive.”

But she never imagined that one of those stories would stay in her memory forever.

One of her regular passengers, Jane, had become a good friend over the years.

She was cheerful and energetic and always kept Allison updated on her family’s affairs.

One morning, she called her with a request.

“Allison, I need your help.

Mike is going on a trip tomorrow, and I can’t take him to the airport because I have to take care of my grandson.

Can you take him?”

“Of course, Jane,” she replied.

The next day, she went to their house.

Jane greeted her from the terrace, holding her grandson in her arms while Mike was taking the suitcase to the car.

She hadn’t seen him in years, since their Christmas party.

He was polite enough, but she remembered that at that time, he seemed cold and a bit distant.

He barely noticed her greeting as he sat in the back seat.

“Straight to the airport?” she asked while adjusting the rearview mirror.

“Actually, I have to make a stop,” he replied and gave her the address.

“I’ll show you the way and pay you more.”

It seemed strange to her, but she didn’t pay much attention.

Maybe he was going to pick up a colleague.

Jane hadn’t mentioned any details about his trip, so she dismissed that thought and followed his instructions.

When they arrived at the address, her stomach tightened.

On the sidewalk stood a young and stylish woman whose face lit up when they stopped.

Mike’s behavior changed instantly.

He got out of the car so quickly that she had never seen before.

“Hi, darling,” he greeted her and hugged her in a way that would be too intimate for a colleague.

“Finally, we have a weekend without this old witch!”

Those words hit her like a punch in the stomach.

The woman laughed and allowed him to kiss her face.

“I still don’t understand why you haven’t left her,” she joked.

Mike laughed.

“It’s complicated.

The house is in her name.

I have to be careful.

If she catches me cheating, she’ll take everything.

But if we divorce by mutual agreement, the property will be divided in half.”

She gripped the steering wheel so tightly that her fingers turned white, and her blood boiled with anger.

How could he do this to Jane?

She had known her for many years; she was cheerful, kind, and didn’t deserve such disrespect.

She wanted to confront him immediately, but hesitated.

What role was she playing here?

Was she a taxi driver or Jane’s friend who had to tell her the truth?

As she drove, she struggled with her own conscience.

Every word Mike exchanged with his lover only fueled her anger.

He kept touching her and making rude comments about his wife, and she couldn’t stand it anymore.

Suddenly, she made a sharp turn.

“Hey, where are you going?” Mike asked alarmed.

“I’m just shortening the way,” she replied in a tense voice.

After a few minutes, she stopped near Jane’s house.

Mike’s face was pale.

“What the hell are you doing?

We have to go to the airport!”

She honked the horn for Jane to come out.

She came to the terrace; her confusion turned into shock when she saw Mike and the young woman in the back seat.

“What’s going on here?” she demanded an explanation.

Mike remained silent, trying to invent a lie.

“Jane, that’s not what you think.

This is Nicole; she… she’s flying with me.

It’s a business trip!”

Nicole smiled.

“Business? No.

Mike and I have been dating for months.”

Jane’s face was petrified.

“Months?

After everything we’ve been through, are you cheating on me?”

“Jane, I can explain everything,” Mike stammered.

“No need,” she interrupted him in a cold and composed tone.

“You don’t have to explain anything.

I saw everything.

Get out of Allison’s car and take your lover.”

Mike tried to beg her, but Jane remained firm.

“I want you to pack your things tonight and leave the house.

If you go on your trip, don’t come back.

And by the way, I remind you: if you’ve been unfaithful, you won’t get anything.”

As she left, leaving Mike and his lover by the side of the road, she felt a mix of emotions: satisfaction and sadness.

Jane thanked her for showing her the truth, but that didn’t make the situation any less painful.

She hadn’t planned to reveal Mike’s infidelity, but sometimes life forces us to play unexpected roles.

Later, while sitting at the kitchen table working on an article for her column, she reflected on the previous day.

It’s hard to destroy someone’s illusion of happiness, but Jane deserved to know the truth.

In the end, she was glad she decided to protect her friend instead of staying on the sidelines.

What would you do in my place?

Sometimes doing the right thing means making tough decisions, but in the end, it’s always worth it.
