It turns out that this unique object is an Italian instrument, which belongs to the percussion instrument category. My grandfather said that this piece was called “Troccoli” and was used in traditional Italian folk music.
These small wooden mallets produce a distinctive rhythmic sound when struck on certain surfaces. Musicians could slide them across the instrument’s grooved surface or simply tap them to create a unique accompaniment.
How did this object end up in my grandfather’s house? The story turned out to be quite romantic. When he was young, he traveled around Italy and one day found himself in a small village in the southern part of the country. There, he met local musicians playing folk melodies in the town square. Enchanted by their performance, he purchased this instrument as a souvenir from his trip.
It stayed in the attic for years until I accidentally found it. Now, I think it would be worth learning to play it and perhaps give new life to this forgotten instrument. After all, every object has an incredible story, and this old Italian instrument is no exception.
